September 27 to 29: The Luz Saint-Sauveur Fair, Pastoralism Day
At Saint Michel, the Toy country pays tribute to the profession of breeder, in a festive form.
Saint-Michel is based on a tradition, that of an agricultural fair, when the breeders sold their animals on the return of the herds , and the village celebrated this good moment of peasant life by a great fair.
Come and discover and live this feast of pastoralism, during this traditional "chop fair" !
For 40 years, the chop fair has been a great moment of conviviality, in all the cultural authenticity of the Toy country.
After the traditional transhumance in the streets of Luz , many activities await you: donkey race, Occitan songs, brass bands and bandas, competitions and demonstrations, gourmet village of local producers….
It will be the time or never to taste the local specialty, the famous chop of Mouton Aop Barèges-Gavarnie, at the table under the marquee or in one of the many restaurants in the village, or outdoors thanks to the giant game grills. Guaranteed short circuit!
And above all, we will take the time to discover the profession of breeder, following the presentations of the races of the valleys and the sheep competition, but also by admiring the work of shepherd dogs, the sheep mowing.
The opportunity to recall a very simple truth: the mountain would not be what it is, as rich and alive, without the breeders who live it on a daily basis.
